My wife will tell you I'm a little kid at heart because I love to celebrate holidays. This year for St. Patrick's Day, we wore green and made a toast with green drinks. Green is my favorite color by far and I learned a very important lesson concerning color while I painted this piece. I'm not sure if I can clearly state it, but its something like "there are times where less color looks like more color." Sorry if that makes no sense, it makes sense in my head. Anyway, instead of just loading my palette with green and ending up with a bottle of leprechaun juice, I focused on matching the Lime soda's hue in front of the wood. Result: A heck of a lot more orange than I ever would've used. Over all I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. It gave me another chance to practice quitting while I'm ahead instead of overworking the paint.
Here's the picture...
Here's the process!
I wasn't able to get that great of a picture, the colors are more vibrant than they appear here.
Sometimes I think the post-paint palette is comparable to the painting itself in artistry. This time not so much but I plan on including them with each painting.
Cheers! And yes it was quite enjoyable.
cheers to your new blog! Taylor I love it and I can't get over how amazing you are!! I don't think I'll ever get that good and I'm way impressed with how you got the colors to look so vibrant! you'll have to show me a thing or two once I need help with my art projects this fall, ok? It was so fun going to icecream with you two tonight! congrats on your blog and be sure to keep it updated :)
ReplyDeleteThis looks like the real thing! You're so good at portraying these types of things (still-lifes? is that what I should call them? Sorry, I'm just young and naive ;) )
