Rainy days, a work in progress and an idea

Today was the perfect day to do some reading. Its pouring rain and I took my last exam before finals in a couple of weeks, so I figured I deserved a little break.  I came home, made a nice hot mate' and curled up on the couch under a blanket with my newly arrived H.P. Lovecraft: Tales.  Think of Lovecraft as a successor to Edgar Allen Poe, minus the poetic element. Master of horror.  So I started reading and couldn't stop. I loved how descriptive his writing is, how vivid everything was. When I finally stopped for lunch almost 3 hours later, I was almost surprised to be in my apartment. It took me a minute or two to shake the feeling that something was hiding somewhere. Very enjoyable way to spend a rainy afternoon, and it led to a wonderful idea for a painting. The last scene from one of the short stories was particularly descriptive and I want to try to paint it. It would have a lot to do with lighting and shadows, I'm excited and hope the excitement lasts until after I've finished my current painting. It'll be a drastic change in subject matter from the recent Mexican soda and fake wine...
Speaking of fake wine, this is my work in progress. I worked on it one day and haven't been able to get back to it for a few days due to hardcore studying. But I'm going to go work on it right after I post this. Ah I love days off of work.  Oh and I also have some pictures from a recent sushi dinner with my beautiful wife that could very well become painting subjects soon.

  1. Tay, you are a brilliant writer! I want to keep reading...so post more! Also, your painting is coming along quite nicely if I must say :) And I think it's cute that you clarify the fakeness of the wine! :)

  2. I love your paintings as well! I had no idea you were even into painting until a few months ago! I really liked the last post, I read it like twice last week and for some reason it wouldn't let me comment either time(I think my computer is stupid)so I am commenting on this post and the last one! They are awesome!

  3. Taylor, I love your paintings. You have always been so talented in so many ways. I was always proud of you for picking up painting as an outlet after you couldn't skateboard anymore. You are extremely talented in writing as well--I think I remember you saving my butt in AP English more than once : )

Good to see you on here and happy my friend.
