Ali Norton

This is my other recent work. I've been waiting to post it because it was a gift for my little sister's B-day on the 6th.  Happy 16th Birthday Ali! I actually did the underpainting for this one almost a year ago, and it sat around until a few weeks ago, partially because I was busy and, I believe, partially because I'm intimidated by portraits. (Just wait until I post my previous attempts!) Anyway I pulled this old canvas out and was determined to finish it in time.  I'm fairly satisfied with it, although the hair gave me some trouble. It feels good to have it done finally. Unfinished canvases (or is it canvii?) can be quite haunting.  I gave it to my sis on Sunday and I think she liked it :)

Here's the beautiful cheer picture:

And then the process...

Obviously I didn't do the picture justice, but I think it at least resembles her a bit. Biggest lesson learned here- I don't have a clue how to paint hair!

And what it left behind...

  1. Wow Taylor! You are talented. It was fun for me to see it is progress up in Logan. But I can't believe how real her eyes and mouth look, I can see her personality. I'm so glad with as busy as you are that you find time to paint.
    Love ya,

  2. This painting was so good Taylor! I'm very impressed. And actually when I saw it last weekend the hair was one of my favorite parts.
